Day 42: The Powerful Word

November 1, 2017

Lamentations 4:1-5:22

Hebrews 2:1-18

Psalm 103:1-22

Proverbs 26:23

God, I have so many thoughts running through my head right now and I don't know what is even worth sharing...What do you want to me say today?

God's Word is so powerful.

Jesus's ministry is so powerful.

Holy Spirit, fill me up. Allow me to speak Your powerful Words and to serve powerfully, profoundly.

I enjoyed today's reading. Especially the Psalm, which I literally highlighted in its entirety.

Tomorrow will be my third shift on the job. I've been enjoying it so far, I like the work and the people I work with, but I've also seen how alert I need to be. The people around me can be quick to speak, quick to become angry, quick to complain. I have already found myself having moments where I feel like I'm losing patience.

Today I had a rough patch of time at work where I was getting frustrated and so then I took my lunch break. I opened up my Bible app while eating my soup and read the verse of the day, 1 Peter 5:8-9. And I actually almost laughed in surprise at how it cut through to my heart and encouraged me on the spot.

It was like even after 42 days of reading the Bible every day, I need the Word (not that that was even up for debate: of course I need the Word). But it also took on a whole new meaning for me. Scripture became so relevant. It was my armor, it was my sword. The Bible was more alive to me in that moment than possibly ever before.

And it was something I had that maybe no one else at my job has: and they need it too.

I was reminded of my mission. It's not just to be a kickass hostess, it's to be a light. A witness for Christ.

God's Word is so powerful.

Jesus's ministry is so powerful.

Holy Spirit, fill me up. Allow me to speak Your powerful Words and to serve powerfully, profoundly.
