The Bible as a Whole

January 3, 2018

Genesis 3:1-4:26

Matthew 2:13-3:6

Psalm 2:1-12

Proverbs 1:7-9

Something annoying is happening to me. I suspected it would but I didn't expect it to happen so fast.

For the first 100 days of the project I've been in the prophets full of confusing, poetic, foreboding language that I hadn't really read before. The whole time I was interested in what I was reading but also I felt like I was waiting to get to "the good part." I love the stories in the Bible, and I was excited to read something I was familiar with. I was particularly excited to read the gospel books.

But, just as I suspected, only 2 days into the stories, into the familiar Bible passages, I'm already wishing I absorbed more of the prophets. In Matthew every other word it seems to be about "what the prophets said" and I don't remember half of the references!

Maybe the prophets are interesting to read 100 days in a row almost exclusively, but they are a necessary piece in the rich story of the Bible.

This wasn't the only thing I noticed in the reading today. I also have a lot to say about the very sad passage about the Fall of Man and I have a lot to say about Mary and Joseph's blind faith and obedience. But I'm really exhausted after a long day and maybe divulging into those thoughts will have to wait. But for now it's good for me to write down that every part of the Bible holds significance whether I understand it or not and I want to invest in the Bible as a whole, not just the parts I enjoy.

Tomorrow:

Genesis 5:1-7:24

Matthew 3:7-4:11

Psalm 3:1-8

Proverbs 1:10-19
