Serving His Enemies
Leviticus 25:47-27:13
Mark 10:32-52
Psalm 45:1-17
Proverbs 10:22
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Mark 10:45
Wow, Jesus. You are so unbelievably humble and patient. You serve us with everything You have.
My professor Dr. Oakes at Biola was talking about how when he adopted his kids he adopted cute little kids, but when God adopted us he adopted his enemies. We rejected Him in the strongest terms and yet He came after us still.
It doesn't take much to discourage me from loving my neighbor, my customer, my co-worker, my friend, my family member. All it takes is a tiny bit of criticism, a little bit of attitude, a small amount of meanness, and I get angry, upset, and ready to give up. None of this compares to the rejection Jesus felt from us. We didn't want Him, but He came for us.
He takes serving to an entirely different level.
Lord, I do not want to serve my neighbor, but teach me to serve my neighbor: for Your glory.
