Stands Forever

Proverbs 13:4

The Word of God stands forever.

Sometimes in the Old Testament I'll read a story and it sounds like it's a bad story because I feel like they are disobeying a command God said a long time ago...but then nothing happens and I'll think "Oh, I guess God was okay with that." But then much later all of a sudden God brings it up again later and I realize that He was never okay with it. I'm saying all this because even though nothing happened with Gibeon in this reading, I think something will later.

When God says something, we are meant to remember it and remember that it's still true even if we don't hear it loudly and clearly constantly. When we make bad choices in our life and nothing bad happens right away we shouldn't mistake that for God's approval. We already know what God thinks.

The Word of God stands forever.

Jesus is telling a parable that holds meaning that no one will understand until after His resurrection. "If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead." God is the same, the power in His Word is the same. The gospel is preached throughout Scripture, even before Jesus's birth. If we can't recognize the gospel in the very fabric of the Word of God, we aren't listening.

We aren't remembering.
