Boring Bible

Judges 1:1-2:9

Luke 21:29-22:13

Psalms 90:1-91:16

Proverbs 13:24-25

Finally leaving the boring property passages in Joshua today I've started Judges. As I know what Judges holds...I'm beginning to think maybe I actually don't like the Old Testament. It's hard to admit, because I love the Bible...but a majority of the Old Testament is boring!

But I also do love the Old Testament because for all the boring stuff there is a lot of AWESOME stuff. Creation, Abraham and Isaac, The Exodus!, Mount Sinai, and I'm looking forward to Ruth! The Old Testament has many many examples of what makes me love the Bible.

I had to pray a little harder before I opened up the Bible today though asking to have the attentiveness to the Old Testament. I've just got in too much of a habit lately of just glossing over as I'm reading. And it worked, I actually paid attention to what I was reading.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.

Luke 21:33

I'm going to have PLENTY of opportunities to read and re-read these passages that I find AWESOME and these passages I find boring. Because this is the stuff that is timeless and irreversible. It's never going to fade away. So that alone makes whatever dullness there is to certain passages that much more brilliant. However boring it is, it is the REAL stuff. This is what will last forever. God's Word.

So yes, maybe today, maybe yesterday, maybe tomorrow I will not be thrilled with whatever I read in the Bible...but that won't matter because it will not cease being truth, it will not cease being important, it will not cease pursuing me.
