Earth Shaker

Job 28:1-30:31

2 Corinthians 2:12-17

Psalm 42:1-11

Proverbs 22:7

My friend and I talked today about how often we lose sight of God. We forget He's working. We forget to trust Him. We expect Him to be doing this when He's doing that and that is the thing we needed the most but never would have known to ask for. But we are only told to trust. We aren't meant to know what He will do, we are only meant to trust Him.

"The fear of the Lord--that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding." Job 28:28

The fear of the Lord has always been a strange concept for me but over the past year I've come to understand it better. "Fear" seemed like such a weird word, but it isn't! Fear encapsulates awe, excitement, and obedience.

Like today we had a mini earthquake. Of course we didn't know it would be mini, all we knew was the earth was shaking for a moment and we were all upstairs. We all walked downstairs to take cover until the rocking stopped. It was mini, it was just one jerk, by the time we were downstairs it was long over. But earthquakes are scary. Someone might have a fear of earthquakes. Earthquakes are awesome. They can take out villages and buildings. They can take lives. Earthquakes are exciting. They change the way we feel. Adrenaline, curiosity, and even a sense of community. "We're all in this together." That's exciting too. Earthquakes command us. We get up and move to safety. We drop everything. We obey.

God is not a earthquake. God is the earth shaker and the earth maker.

Forgive my cheesy rhyme.

The fear of earthquakes is only a small glimpse of what the true fear of God could look like in our hearts. It would be all consuming and for me, I would hope it would be constant in my life. I want to constantly be focused on this fearful response to God. In awe, excited, and obedient. And trusting Him!

I'm sure it's not something I will acquire in this life...as I don't know if perfect wisdom in the cards for me in this life. But to know that this is what wisdom looks like is a good thing to know.
