To See Growth
1 Corinthians 3:5-23
We had people over at our house today so I didn't even think to read my Bible. But when I remembered I decided it was too late, I was tired and I needed to work tomorrow. But then I realized that I didn't have any clean aprons or shirts to wear to work tomorrow...and I'll be working my first serving shift! And so I realized I had to take the time for a very quick load of laundry and I might as well read my Bible while I'm at it.
And I never regret it...doing laundry or reading my Bible.
1 Corinthians 3:5-7
"What is Apollos? What is Paul? Only servant, through whom you cam to believe--as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow."
Our job as minsters to Christ is to be an instrument, to be a small piece in a bigger plan, to serve in whatever tasks He may place in our path, love those He has placed in our path...we aren't called to do anything too big even though what He asks calls for big faith. And by that I mean...ultimately it is God who changes hearts. We are called to be a light, to love, to serve, in whatever small way we can and it is God who is the Light, is the Love, and is the Savior.
This verse gives me hope because I know I have surrendered myself (in my imperfect way) to serve in this process of planting, watering, or whatever my task is. And I ache and hope to see growth. It is the hope that I will see growth that keeps me going--but not, also, because I know I don't need to see growth to obey. I will obey even if I never see growth. But I guess, I have faith that God will show me growth, either on this side of Heaven or the other. I will see what role I played, and I will see what God was doing all along.
I am nothing, but God is the Maker of life, breath, and beauty. He is redeemer, I'm on His side and He's on mine.
